History of EYARC

The Eastern York Area Recreation Commission (EYARC) was founded in November of 2002 with the assistance of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). EYARC was created out of the great demand shown for organized recreational opportunities in your area. Operation of EYARC began in April of 2003.

The Eastern York Area Recreation Commission is a not-for-profit organization that is committed to encouraging a sense of community in the Eastern York Area by providing professionally organized recreational and educational programs and activities. There are two representatives from each participating municipality that creates the Eastern York Area Recreation Commission Board. The Board meets the third Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Lower Windsor Township building. Everyone is welcome!

EYARC board and staff would like to thank Melanie Hailstone; for all that she has done to make our organization develop into a successful diversified recreation commission, meeting the needs of all ages.
As our previous director for EYARC she has brought many exciting programs to the area and built a reputation of integrity, to all that have known her. One of her great successes has been to bring before and after, school-age child programs to our elementary schools and increase our pre-school enrollment. Melanie's zeal and enthusiasm has been an inspiration to all. We wish Melanie and her husband Rob, the best of luck as they start their new life in Bushkill, Pa.

The Board of EYARC has adopted the following mission statement as the basis for their programming:

Mission Statement

The Eastern York Area Recreation Commission exists to offer a wide variety of recreational and educational opportunities and services to the citizens of Eastern York County. Programs are designed to promote physical, intellectual and emotional well-being of the participant thereby contributing to quality of life.
